Western Book Publishing News

It's been a long, hot summer here in Wickenburg. The only saving grace to all this heat, is that I spend A LOT of time in my office taking care of pesky details and finishing up projects. It's also a time when we have much lower sales, no events scheduled, lots of money going out for upcoming invents, and lots of worries.

What? Me worry? We are no different than a million other small businesses struggling to survive in a rugged economy. Fortunately, we're able to pay our bills, unlike so many of our vendors who have put off paying us for months, now forcing us to have to charge them interest on overdue balances...something I really dislike doing. But, Moonlight Mesa Associates, Western Book Publisher, is not an ATM machine.

On the very bright side, however, the fact is we are still in business, unlike Borders! And, from my years in publishing and selling,  I know that sales will perk up immensely as fall approaches. So, there you have it.

Jere D. James' most recent  title, High Country Killers is now available...TWO WEEKS EARLY, no less! The trade paperback and ebook versions are out, but the large-print edtion will be perhaps another week or two before it will be available.

The book received a sterling review from Senior Reviewer Shirley Johnson at MidWest Book Review, and also a great review by Barbra Lee, Ezinearticles.com writer, will appear sometime this week...or next.

Steve Myall, of Western Fiction Review, will also be giving us a review once I can get a book off to England for him!

James already has about 1/2 of the next book completed. We hope to have that one available before June of 2013. James says the next book, Back from the Dead, will be his last Jake Silver Adventure. Egads. James' books have been, hands down, our best-selling fiction novels...EEEKS. James will continue writing, but hasn't commented on what future novels will be about.

Our event in Pinetop, Arizona, over Labor Day weekend, far exceeded my expectations. Sales were GOOD, not GREAT, but certainly GOOD. First of all, we had no monsoon storms pass over. That in itself is almost unbelievable considering that the area has had almost daily monsoons since the season began.

Second, our sales exceeded last year's sales by quite a few books. That came as a pleasant surprise, too. The top sellers at Pinetop this year were, believe it or not, Sam's Desert Adventure and Apache, Book II in the Jake Silver Adventure series.

Overall, the Jere D. James titles were the top-selling books.

Our fall schedule looks promising. Hopefully all the events will be as good or better than Pinetop!

OCTOBER will find us at the Glendale Wild West Festival on the 19, 20, 21, and at the Wickenburg Gun Show the following weekend.

NOVEMBER will be the Blue Grass Festival in Wickenburg on the 9th, 10th, 11th.

DECEMBER - you will find us at the Arizona National Stock Show in Phoenix from the 26th to Jan. 1.

Potentially, we might squeeze in another show in November and December. We'll see how things go.
