Short Story Contest Finalists Announced
Thank you all for your patience. All of the readers have turned in their score sheets, and here are the finalists for the 2010 Cowboy Up Short Story Contest. The stories are listed in no particular order:
Coahuila Captive, Drew Davis
The Spittoon, Mark Redmond
Waitin' for a Friend, Carolyn Steele
Eight Seconds, Melissa Embry
The Dead Rope, James O'Brien
Old Outlaw, Edward Wyatt
Lost Letters, Barbara Marshak
The Toughest Ride, Marlene Baird
Showdown at Diablo Flats, Michael Fishman
The Coffin Cowboy, W.D. West
These stories will be scored once more by at least two readers. Because of an upcoming hectic schedule, however, it may be a little bit into October before the cash prize winners are announced. I apologize for the delay. If it's possible to get the stories re-scored earlier and announcements made, we certainly will.
Every one of the above mentioned stories deserves a first place. These are just spectacular stories! I want to thank you for sharing them with us, and I hope you'll be willing to let us publish them in an upcoming anthology. I'll be contacting many of this year's and last year's entrants about using the stories. We'll even be taking some from the semi-finalist list as several of those stories missed out on being in the finalist division by only a few points.
Again, we thank you very sincerely for your entry into our contest and for trusting us with your work. This was such a difficult contest to judge because the stories were all terrific!
The Romance Category winner will be announced at the same time as this category.
