Negotiations are officially underway between publisher Becky Coffield of Moonlight Mesa Associates, Inc. and new author Jere D. James.
"This is pretty much a done deal," Coffield said. "We're very anxious to work with Jere James, and the author is agreeable to our terms."
According to Coffield, James will not receive an advance for the first book, but will get a three book contract in exchange. "That's a pretty good deal for a new writer, I think," Coffield said. "We are talking about advances for books two and three if number one is as popular as I think it will be. Of course, we are willing to let Jere move on if the author wants. We don't want to work with someone who's unhappy with our services. It's a win-win for all concerned."
Nothing has been signed yet, with both parties giving the process time. "There's no rush. Every time I've rushed a book I've regretted it," the publisher commented. "We've lots more to discuss, let's put it that way."
The new title, Saving Tom Black, could be out as early as next year if all goes as planned. "I love this story. It's humorous, touching and action filled. Plus Jere is willing to collaborate with us on a few minor changes."
